My Final Project and Reflection

Over the past semester, I have completed course work for my graduate class, Exceptionality, Diversity, & Differences- EDUC 657, through Valley City State University. I have learned a lot about different topics regarding racism, bullying, sexism, social classes, special needs, language, and religion and how these issues impact a student's education.

The three biggest things that I learned from this class:

1) It is my responsibility to create a multicultural curriculum to enhance each student's learning experience.

2) Schools across the nation are working hard at being proactive as many issues still arise in our schools today. It seems as soon as one issue is resolved, another issue comes up.

3) Educators are responsible for helping students becomes contributing citizens and shouldn't be limited based on their gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, native language, religion, class, or disability. Educations must create equity in their classrooms, so all students can have an equal opportunity to learn.

As much as I want to believe that our schools are free of biases, they still do exist. Accepting that it is happening and being aware of biases that are going on, is the first step in eliminating it. Behaviors are passed down from generations. It will only take one generation to take a stand and believe that our nation can work together to create an accepting multicultural environment.
